About the Artist:
Allison Wickey was born in Belleville, Illinois. Her formal art education took place in Chicago at Columbia College. It was academic, rigorously focused on the human figure, and steeped in the European tradition. In 2000, after five years in Chicago, Wickey moved back to Belleville, where she developed a talent as a muralist and faux finish artist in St. Louis. In 2007, Wickey settled along the 18-mile stretch of Scenic Highway 30A in the Florida panhandle. She has since refined her experience in Venetian plaster and glazes and began experimenting with wooden frames. Her technique now involves thirteen steps. Each painting requires a four-day process of a mixed media of Venetian plaster, acrylic paint, glazes and the application of an orbital sander.
