Johnny Colt | #MONKEY
Join us Friday, March 1, 2019, from 5PM to 8PM for the opening reception of #MONKEY at 25 Central Square, presenting works by Johnny Colt.
In #MONKEY, the 30A-based musician, street artist, activist, and film director, artfully employs epigrams for a street-art study of human nature. The exhibition examines fleeting moments between people and objects, juxtaposed against the study of transcendence and religion. Colt’s satirical canvas street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humor with canvas graffiti executed his own distinctive stenciling technique. On the surface, #MONKEY is inspired by everyday human phenomena represented by stencil, photography and paint on canvas. Yet, on a deeper level, the works explore the concept of duality: being and non-being. The artist secretly displays his works on publicly visible surfaces – such as against buildings and in natural and unexpected environments, using canvas and physical props.
Johnny Colt | #MONKEY is hosted by Anne Hunter Galleries in conjunction with the Seaside First Friday Art Walk. DJ Will Bowers of E-C Disco Techs will bring the sounds – a compilation of tunes that inspire Colt’s work. E-C Disco Techs is a group of emerald coast music selectors spinning only the deepest grooves pulled from the depths of disco, house, and lofi hip-hop. Colt’s exhibition will run from March 1 – May 31 at 25 Central Square. Johnny Colt is not represented by the gallery and the #MONKEY exhibition is not authorized by the artist. Colt’s works of art have been collected for exhibition from their street and natural environments by local community members in celebration of the artist and his work. Works sold during the exhibition will go to the highest bidder with proceeds donated to local charities.
