On Friday, August 4, please join us from 5PM – 7PM at the 25 Central Square to view A TEEN RETROSPECTIVE by artist Katelyn Gummere.

Pulling from her experiences as a teenage artist, Katelyn Gummere’s artworks are a cerebral synthesis of youthful explorations and social constructs. The retrospective will include three genres of art. A senior portfolio, photographs printed on metal, and fluid paintings. “The central idea of my concentration is to reveal the fading passion of art students and inner struggles. I used infrared photography and transparency,” explains the artist.  “My work embodies the feelings of pressure which art students endure on a day-to-day basis. I conveyed these feelings with the use of infrared photography. I used transparencies layered over photos to represent the deception of balance in isolation. I explored the subjects and themes using these techniques as a way to express the difficulties and challenges of the art field.”

About the Artist:

Katelyn Gummere began her journey shooting photography as a hobby which cultivated a love of paint, 3D artistry, and graphic design. She was born in Niceville, Florida, and moved to Scenic Highway 30A in the 7th grade. There, she attended Emerald Coast Middle School and Seacoast Collegiate High School, before graduating in 2017 from South Walton High School. Gummere studied local artists in the 30A community who helped mold and shape her vision. During her sophomore and senior years, the high school student submitted art portfolios to the College Board to earn college credits. Her sophomore portfolio showed the aesthetics of women through different eras. She received a three out of five for these paintings. The artist’s senior portfolio portrayed the struggles art students through the use of infrared photography. She received a four out of five. Gummere was recently featured as a finalist in The Photographers Forum.  She is attending Flagler College in the fall of 2017 where she will study graphic design.
